Import finished

Hi all, I have just finished importing the pages from incubator:Wy/vi to this new wiki. Please tell me if there are any problems with imported pages, or missing pages, so that I can fix that. Otherwise, I want to congratulate you on getting your own subdomain now, and wish you good luck for the future development of the project. If you need any help with admin actions, you can ask me or other stewards and global sysops. Of course you can also elect local sysops, and request their rights to be enabled on Meta. Access to data from Wikidata coming to Wikivoyage

(Sorry for writing in English. I hope someone can translate this for me.)

Last month Wikivoyage was the first sister project that gets their language links from Wikidata. A large part of the language links have been migrated by now from the articles' wiki text to Wikidata.

The next step is enabling access to the actual data on Wikidata for Wikivoyage. We are planning to do this on 26th of August. Once this is enabled you will be able to use data like the currency, country calling code and time zones from Wikidata if you want.

To use data from Wikidata in a Wikivoyage article you have two options:

• parser function. To get the country calling code for the country described by the article for example just use or .
• Lua. The details about access to data via Lua is explained at mw:Extension:WikibaseClient/Lua.

Important note: No articles will be changed automatically by the software to make use of Wikidata. Articles and templates will have to be adapted by you to make use of the data. meta:Wikidata/Deployment Questions answers some of the questions you might have. If you have further questions please do let me know. d:Wikidata:Wikivoyage migration has a number of people who are familiar with Wikidata and Wikivoyage who can also help you out in case you run into any issues.

I hope access to the data Wikidata can provide will help you make Wikivoyage rock even more. I travel a lot and Wikivoyage has proven to be extremely useful. Thanks for your work, folks :)

Cần nâng cấp

Dự án này cần phải sửa sang nhiều. Mình thấy nếu so với các dự án khác thì dự án này còn kém xa. Chẳng hạn như nếu gõ trong ô tìm kiếm thì đã không có gợi ý nào hiện ra, còn nếu enter thì sẽ ra dòng chữ "Đã xuất hiện lỗi khi tìm kiếm: Phía sau tìm kiếm đã gây lỗi: Error opening index." Access to data from Wikidata is now available

Heya folks :) (Sorry for writing in English. I hope someone can translate this.)

I just wanted to let you know that from now on you have access to the data that is on Wikidata. To get a feeling for what kind of data we are talking about please have a look at the Wikidata item about Andorra. More is being added constantly. We hope this will be useful for you and help you continue to create great articles.

To make use of the data in an article or template you have two ways:

• Parser function. To get the country calling code for the country described by the article for example just use {{#property:country calling code}} or {{#property:P474}}. (There are still issues with properties related to coordinates and time when using the parser function. bugzilla:48937 and bugzilla:50277 are tracking these.)
• Lua. The details about access to data via Lua is explained at mw:Extension:WikibaseClient/Lua.

A few things to keep in mind:

• No article or template is edited automatically by the software behind Wikidata. You will have to adapt them by hand or using a bot to make use of it.
• Right now it is only possible to access data from the specific Wikidata item that the Wikivoyage article is linked to. We are working on making it possible to access data from other items as well. bugzilla:47930 is tracking the progress on this.

Please do let me know if you see any issues or run into problems.

Vào tháng 5, các dự án tiếng Việt của Wikimedia (Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikibooks, Wikisource, và Wikiquote) được nâng cấp để sắp xếp các bài trong thể loại theo thứ tự tiếng Việt (A, Ă, Â, B, C, Đ, ...) thay vì (A, B, ..., Z, Đ, ..., Ẩ, ...). Tuy nhiên, những người thiết lập wiki này đã quên bật lên thứ tự tiếng Việt tại đây. Tôi đã báo cáo lỗi này, nhưng những người quản lý hệ thống tại Bugzilla sẽ yêu cầu sự đồng thuận của cộng đồng.

Các bạn có đồng ý bật lên thứ tự tiếng Việt (A, Ă, Â, B, C, Đ, ...) trong các thể loại tại đây không?

Wiki Loves Monuments on Wikivoyage

Logo Wiki Loves Monuments

This month it is the 4th year that volunteers from Wikipedia and Wikimedia organize Wiki Loves Monuments, an international photo contest focused on monuments, the cultural heritage the world has. In 2010 it was organized for the first time in the Netherlands only. That was big success and was in 2011 expanded to 18 countries in Europe. In 2012 it went worldwide with 35 countries around the globe. In 2012 the Guinness World Records recognized the 2011 as the "Largest photography competition" in the world. Last week we received the message that they recognize the 2012 as the largest now, but has to be updated on their website, see: http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/records-6000/largest-photography-competition/

Yesterday on 1 September the 2013 edition started with more than 50 countries. On the first day already more than 14.000 new images of monuments have been uploaded. All these images will enrich the lists of monuments on Wikipedias and the articles about specific monuments, so that our cultural heritage becomes visible to the public. Many of those images can be used for articles in Wikivoyage as well to illustrate what can be seen on that voyage there.

To inform visitors of Wikipedia and Commons that Wiki Loves Monuments is going on and everyone can participate, we have set up a notice on top of every Wikipedia or Commons page if the visitor lives in a country where the photo contest is organized. If the Wikivoyage community wishes, it is also possible that this notice is shown above Wikivoyage pages to inform visitors and users of Wikivoyage that they can participate.

Each participating country has a national team that organizes the competition, with a jury, prizes, lists of monuments, website or landing page. The winners of each country (the ten best pictures) will also participate in the international contest and can there win prizes as well.

You can participate as well in this contest! If you ever made a photo of a registered monument, you can participate by uploading it in September through the special upload campaigns.

Want to try CirrusSearch, MediaWiki's new search engine?

Hello everyone!

I apologise for only being able to write this message in English. I would be very grateful if someone could translate this message.

CirrusSearch has a lot of advantages over the current search engine LuceneSearch, including:

• Cirrus can expand templates. so the text of a template that's in an article will be found when searching.
• Cirrus updates its search index more often. That means changes to articles will be reflected in search results much faster.
• Cirrus supports different languages better than LuceneSearch. Our other early adopters (e.g. Bengali Wikipedia) have so far been happy with the new search.

If you agree to be early adopters, CirrusSearch will be run alongside the current search, so you can use both old and new search to test CirrusSearch. Eventually, CirrusSearch will be deployed to all wikis and replace the current search. By trying it out earlier, you can help us make it better for everyone, and make sure that it meets your needs. If you'd prefer to wait until we begin deploying it everywhere else, then that's okay too.
